Welcome to The Grange School & Sports College
Welcome to The Grange School and Sports College’s website. My name is Steve Cook and I have been the Headteacher at the school since September 2006. The school has experienced huge success over the past few years and is a highly popular 11-18 school on the edge of Bristol. We have been a specialist sports college since 2003 and we are the hub for sport activity for a large Sports Partnership for the local area working with primary, secondary, special schools and F.E. Colleges.
The Grange School and Sports College has always been a warm and welcoming school and this is often commented on by visitors to the school. ‘Enjoy and Achieve’ is our important ethos which links closely to our vision statement of ‘Participate – Perform – Progress’. We not only provide a broad and exciting curriculum but have an extensive and rich programme of enrichment activities, many of which are showcased on the website. Ofsted commented very favourably on our curriculum and this is continually expanding to include new qualifications such as Specialised Diplomas as well as a wider range of GCSEs and AS/A level subjects. Links with schools and colleges through the Kingswood Partnership enable our students to access courses at other institutions and for students from other schools to come and learn successfully at The Grange School and Sports College.
The school has a very clear pastoral system which supports all students and we received particular praise from Ofsted, and from the Local Authority, with regard to the care and guidance that the school provides for its students. Students are actively encouraged to participate in all aspects of school life from their own academic performance, to student voice activities, School Council, charity events, working with other school and community groups, and involvement in new developments at the school. We value their imput and regard our students as key partners in ensuring that the school continues to progress into the future.
Finally, the school is immensely proud of its international links which are continually expanding each year. The school holds The International School Award and currently links with schools in 15 countries in Europe, (ELOS Project), has a link with a school in India and is part of a British Council project called Asian Dialogues: Connecting Classrooms linking us with 10 schools in Thailand and 10 schools in Indonesia. Visits to these countries provide exciting opportunities for students and staff at the school, plus a range of activities developed via the Internet. This enables our students to develop as global citizens ready for an ever-changing world and this was particularly commented on by Ofsted in their last inspection: “Ongoing work with a group of schools overseas has brought opportunities for students to participate in activities not normally available in this country.” (Ofsted December 2007).
