Golf Opportunities at The Grange

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

This year students have been able to participate in Golf at a number of levels. We have had students participating at the highest level through their clubs but we have also been promoting golf at participation levels too.

Students have been able to access golf coaching on Thursday afternoons with our link professional golfer from the Kendleshire Golf Club. They have had two sessions at school, which have focused on technique.

A number of competitions have been organised in the South Gloucestershire area through the ‘Golf Roots’ and ‘Active Golf’ initiatives. The idea behind the initiatives is to enable students to access golf coaching and try golf where previously they would not have had the opportunity. The students have really enjoyed the opportunity to try a different sport and develop their skills and confidence. We hope that this will lead to more students playing golf regularly on one of the many local courses.

Students who attended the recent ‘Active Golf’ competition at the Kendleshire Golf Club were awarded the fair play award for their excellent approach to the tournament. Well done to everyone involved.

The students involved in the initiatives were:

Yr. 7 boys: Mitch Jobbins, Sean Skinner, Tom Shail and Josh Jennings

Yr. 9 girls: Stella Jelly, Amy Williams, Natasha Micic and Nichola Walker

Yr. 9 boys: Ben Limmer, Jacob Watson, Josh Denley and Michael Saunders
