Miss Glover’s Year 10 BTEC Certificate group spend second week of course at Hamburger Hill Outdoor adventure centre!
22 students from the Kingswood partnership spent their second week of lessons doing a practical session with a difference! The students are beginning their course studying a Health, safety and injury module. This involves them having to develop understanding of how to carry out a risk assessment for a number of practical activities. It was decided that the students would experience the risk assessment processes at Bristol’s Hamburger Hill activity centre. They all completed a new outdoor activity called ‘Pulse ranger’ which is similar to the indoor game of laser shooting, but instead of being in an indoor environment it is carried out in vast woodland and is found to be much more exhilarating!
The centre allowed us to examine the way that they monitor and manage risks when facilitating high risk, adrenaline fuelled activities. This was a great help for the students when completing assignment tasks. The hands on practical experience of the activity and the visit to the centre was a great learning opportunity for all the students.
