Year 7 Sports Science lesson : Review from the whole of 7q2!
Tuesday, March 31st, 2009This is a report on the sports science lesson. We were doing forces and safety in P.E. It was really exciting as we were doing something new (except the rugby scrum as some of us have already done that) and it was fun because we were learning but having fun at the same time.
First we watched Mr Postlethwaite do an example of a rugby scrum and we all learnt something by watching it. Then we did a rugby scrum with a partner. We had to get on our hands and knees and put our cheeks on their ear. It was really fun, we had to push with our shoulders against each other to drive them over the line. We then had to get three people on each side and we had to push our shoulders against theirs and see who could push more. If the scrum moved it was unbalanced as one team was stronger. If the scrum turned the team was unbalanced and one side was stronger.
Ther tug of war was the best sport activity. It was competitive but fun at the same time. It showed you had to work as a team and use your weight to pull the rope. In the last go we had one team with shoes on and one team with just socks. We learnt how friction affects how things move. When you have your shoes on you have more friction and the one with no socks was sliding all over the place as it was much more slippery as they had no grip so they had no friction. A big disadvantage!
At the end of the lesson we were on a trampoline one at a time. That was my favourite bit. You pushed up with upthrust and came down by gravity. It was all unbalanced forces. We did 3 different shapes, tuck, straddle and pike. You had to be careful to not land on your head or you could break your neck.
It was the best lesson ever! The whole class really enjoyed it and we learnt a lot. It was all thanks to Mrs Stuart and Mr Postlethwaite for arranging it so thanks to them because we all appreciate it. I think we should do it more often. Please!!
